The Story of Ellis Island
New York, New York, U.S.A. The Seabury Press 1967 Stated First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Minus Very Good Minus Ex-Library
Book is in Very Good Minus condition with a Very Good Minus dust jacket; the usual library markings, pocket remnants, etc.; brown cloth binding clean, with light wear; one short ink mark on page near back of book, o/w text is clean and unmarked, with no creases or tears; jacket very lightly soiled. 152 pp. Here is the fascinating, often shocking account of the role of Ellis Island in 'processing' some 16 million immigrants (most of them from Europe) from 1892 to 1932. Here also is an intimate journal of the Island itself, from the time of early Dutch settlement until it was proclaimed a national monument by President Lyndon B. Johnson on May 11, 1965. 009311
