Hughes 1905 First Edition Hard Cover Good Minus No Jacket An original copy of a very scarce volume, intact and 100% readable, in a brown cloth binding with gold title; text is slightly tanned and unmarked and generally clean except for very minor foxing and a couple of small, pale marginal smudges and stains; one bent corner and a short tear to title page, o/w no creased or torn pages; binding shows minor soiling, bumped corners, general mild surface rubbing, heavier rubbing at corners and spine ends, fraying at spine ends, and a .5" tear in cloth at foot of spine; hinges loosening; short tear to rear pastedown at top of hinge; edges of text block spotted, top edge a bit darkened. 350 pp, b&w plates. No date of publication (circa 1905). J. B. Wilson, a freethinker, was President of the National Liberal Party, who sent him as the American delegate to the first International Freethought Congress, held in Rome in 1904.
